Kim Kardashian teases that she’s a ‘shape shifter’ who can ‘squeeze into anything’ as she tries to obtain Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ dress for the Met Gala in this week’s episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians.
The 41-year-old reality star was given a replica of the dress to try on first before trying on the actual dress – which was purchased by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not for a whopping $4.8 million in 2016, a record price for a dress.
While Kim was able to fit into the replica, she was left FUMING when she couldn’t fit into the original, which sent her on a journey to lose at least 10 pounds before the Met Gala.

Kim first broaches the idea of wearing Marilyn’s dress when she meets up with fashion editor/stylist Carlos Nazario, who Kim says she met on her Vogue cover shoot.
‘So I always love seeing what’s out there and building connections and relationships, so we’re doing a little style-up,’ Kim adds in confession.
She tells Carlos that she wasn’t planning on going to the annual Met Gala this year, ‘because it was like, how do you top last year with Balenciaga? It was such a moment.’

Kim jokes that she never thought – back in the days when she wasn’t invited – that she would ever skip a Met Gala.
‘It’s scary and exciting to do this all by myself. This is a big deal for me,’ Kim says in confession, referring to the fact this will be her first Met Gala without her ex Kanye West styling her.
‘This is like a big deal for me. The Met is so important to me. Honestly, I wasn’t even invited until I went with Kanye, so I am so excited just to do my own vision this year,’ Kim adds in confession.

‘I had this thought and I was like what is more American than Marilyn Monroe? When she sang Happy Birthday to JFK, who is, like, America, and I thought, where is the dress that she wore?; she tells Carlos.
She adds in confession, ‘When I thought of this idea I immediately called Julien’s Auctions, cause I knew that’s who sold it.’
‘Julien’s Auctions said we sold it to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and we will put you in contact with them. The conversation went amazing. They said that I can try on the dress,’ she adds in confession.
Kim tells Carlos that it was ‘scandalous’ that Marilyn wore, ‘a sheer nude dress’ adding it was the, ‘the first time anyone had worn a naked dress.’
She shows Carlos photos of the dress and adds in confession that she’s, ‘fascinated’ by Marilyn because she, ‘did things her way.’

Kim says she’s gonna try on the dress and hope it fits while Khloe jokes that she tailors her underwear and, ‘it’s never gonna be the way you want it.’

‘The Marilyn dress is here,’ Kim tells her stylist Danielle Levi and tailor Samuel Ososki, adding, ‘it’s a replica and, ‘if this does not fit me, I can’t even try the original.’
‘I’ve Googled her measurements, I’m looking at my measurements, the width of my shoulders and my body makes me like a shape shifter, I can squeeze into anything,’ Kim adds.
She adds that no fashion companies would ‘trust’ them for years and then they would actually realize, ‘Oh wait, she actually fits in our stuff.’
‘So… I don’t know how to convince the guy who owns the original Marilyn dress that I’m a shape shifter. This has stretch… the original doesn’t have stretch. So I’ve got one shot… and I just f***ing ate,’ Kim adds.
Kim adds in confession there is, ‘no back-up plan’ joking the back-up plan is her being in her SKIMS pajamas at home eating.
She goes into a room and is heard saying, ‘Oh my God,’ before the door opens… and Kim comes out stating, ‘Oh my God… it fits. It’s a little big, actually.’
‘The replica dress fits me and is like big on me and I thought, ‘Oh my God this is perfect, I bet the fabric shrunk a little bit over time… but the dress will fit. I am one step closer to bringing my vision to life,’ Kim adds in confession.
She shows her stylist and tailor that she had to wear her, ‘tallest stripper shoes’ to fully pull off the dress because Marilyn is, ‘so much taller than me.’
Danielle adds that Marilyn had, ‘a shawl that was falling at one point,’ as the show footage from her now-iconic performance on May 19, 1962.
Kim adds in confession that, ‘ever since I did the Balenciaga look with the face mask and covered head to toe, it changed the way that I feel about just looking pretty on a red carpet. It’s not about just looking pretty. It has to be a story, a whole vibe. And this dress is such a good story.’
Danielle shows her video of the performance as Kim wonders where JFK’s wife, Jackie Onassis, was, as Danielle jokes she was probably, ‘crying in the bathroom.’
Kim looks into the camera and gives her best impression of the Marilyn Happy Birthday performance as Danielle can’t help but laugh.
Kim goes to meet Kourtney and Khloe for lunch, where she revealed, ‘They just pulled the whole thing from me and I’m fuming.’

‘I had to try the prototype first and see if it fit, and once it fit, they sent the original. And when I went to put it on, it wouldn’t even go up over my hips, and I just was like devastated,’ Kim explained.
They show footage of Kim failing to bring the dress up over her hips, as she says, ‘You know what, I’ll try everything and if I really get 10 pounds down, then we’ll try it again.’
Back at lunch, Kim says, ‘I was so prepared to go in my head, that it’s gonna make me so sad to not,’ adding if they won’t let her wear the dress she won’t go to the Met, as Kourtney says, ‘I’m sorry.’
Kim adds, ‘I wrote them a groveling, begging email, but they were very firm. They were like we can’t get the insurance, we’ll get the insurance. I have an answer for everything and they’re like no, we can’t. I just found that out today so I’m devastated.’
Later in the episode, after Easter in Palm Springs, Kim is seen walking on a treadmill, determined to lose the weight needed to wear the Marilyn Monroe dress.
‘I have about three weeks to fit into this dress. I’m going to do every last thing that I can to try and make this happen,’ Kim says in confession.
She’s seen working out with a trainer, adding in confession she will have to eat ‘so clean’ and also cut out sugar which is, ‘so hard’ for her.
‘Please let me try it on again. I’m not going to take no for an answer,’ Kim adds in confession as they show her continually working out.
The preview for next week’s eighth episode of The Kardashians reveals Kim flew to Florida to try on the Marilyn dress at Ripley’s… and even that took some convincing.
‘They weren’t even gonna let me try it on, until Kris Jenner called,’ Kim adds in confession, as she’s seen continuing her workouts with four days left until the Met Gala.

While she only wore the original dress briefly on the red carpet, changing into a replica for the rest of the evening, though it caused controversy when it was revealed the original dress was slightly damaged.
Ripley’s loaned the dress to Kim for the Met Gala, with Kim reportedly losing upwards of 16 pounds to fit into the dress for the bash.
The event became controversial a month after the Met, when before-and-after photos revealed that some of the embedded crystals were now missing and there was also reportedly damage to one of the dress’ zippers.
Despite the photos, Ripley’s released a statement claiming, ‘she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala.’
Ripley’s Vice President of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner, added: ‘From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.’

Khloe’s sisters Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner arrive, though Kim – decked out in an orange Balenciaga jersey and ripped blue jeans – didn’t notice the party’s theme on the invite.
‘Wait, was the theme purple?’ Kim asks as Kylie says, ‘It was pastels,’ though Kim asks, ‘How was I supposed to know it was pastel?’
‘Cause it says on the invite, Kim,’ Khloe – wearing a frilly pink top and matching pants – says, as she noticed Kourtney – wearing black from head to toe – also didn’t follow the theme.
‘Was it supposed to be pastels?’ Kourtney asks Khloe, who jokes that both Kourtney and Kim didn’t see that, ‘it’s literally on the invite.’
Khloe shows event planner Mindy Weiss that True’s father Tristan Thompson got his daughter a diamond necklace for her birthday.
Mindy asks if he was going to come to the party, but Khloe says, ‘He can’t, he has a game today.’
‘I don’t know, if Tristan was here today, that would add more stress to me. We do co-parent really well but I haven’t seen Tristan in person since before Christmas time,’ Khloe admits sin confession.

A producer asks what Khloe was like when she was four years old, as Kris reveals, ‘When Khloe was four years old, she thought she was a dog and so she would bark at everyone.’
They show throwback snaps of young Khloe as Kris adds, ‘She would lick a stranger’s legs, she would beg for food. She was wild.’
Back at the party, Kris tells Khloe that Tristan called her, ‘and he said that he privately went ahead and took care of the whole party.’
‘No, he’s not taking care of the whole party,’ Khloe sharply responds, but Kris says he already did.
‘That’s nice, but I won’t let that happen,’ Khloe adds though Kris says she should let him, adding he was, ‘so excited to do it.’
